Tree Removal Cost in Brisbane (2026 Guide)

Guide-only 2026 tree removal costs in Brisbane by tree size and height, what pushes the price up, extras like stump grinding, and how to get a firm quote.

In short
  • Published Brisbane guides put small tree removal at roughly $300 to $3,000, medium at $800 to $3,500 and large at $3,500 to $12,000 (guide only).
  • Height, access, what sits under the tree, powerlines and disposal drive most of the difference between quotes.
  • Stump grinding, cranes, EWPs and after-hours callouts are priced on top of the removal.
  • The only firm number is a written quote after a site visit. Ours are free.

How much does tree removal cost in Brisbane?

There is no single price for tree removal in Brisbane. Every job is quoted on the tree in front of us, not off a rate card. The figures below are guide only, pulled from published Brisbane cost guides, and they are wide because trees vary so much.

GoTreeQuotes puts Brisbane small tree removal at $300 to $3,000, medium trees at $800 to $3,500 with an average around $1,940, and large trees at $3,500 to $12,000. Airtasker's 2025 data shows a median removal job of $871, which reflects the fact that most backyard jobs are small to medium trees.

Tree sizeGuide range (Brisbane)
Small$300 to $3,000
Medium$800 to $3,500
Large$3,500 to $12,000

If you want a rough number for your own tree before you call anyone, try our tree removal cost calculator. It uses these published ranges and adjusts for the things that matter on site. Tree removal cost by height (2026)

Height is the first thing we look at, because it sets how the tree comes down. A tree under 5 metres can often be felled in one piece. Anything over 10 metres in a suburban yard is usually climbed and dismantled in sections, which takes more time, more people and more gear.

Dynamic Tree Solutions' 2026 Brisbane guide breaks removal cost down by height like this:

Tree heightGuide range
Under 5m$300 to $700
5 to 10m$500 to $1,400
10 to 15m$1,200 to $2,800
15 to 25m$2,500 to $5,500
25 to 35m$5,000 to $10,000

A second Brisbane guide from Chip Off The Old Block lands in a similar place: small trees under 6 metres at $350 to $900, medium 6 to 12 metres at $800 to $2,200, large 12 to 20 metres at $2,000 to $5,000 or more, and trees over 20 metres at $4,000 to $12,000 or more. Mature gums on acreage in Sheldon, Mount Cotton and Cornubia sit at the top end of those ranges.

What pushes tree removal prices up or down

Two trees the same height can be quoted very differently. These are the things we weigh up on a site visit:

  • Access. Can the truck and chipper get close? A tree in a front yard with street access is cheaper than one behind a pool in a tight backyard where every log has to be carried out by hand.
  • What is underneath. Roofs, fences, sheds, glass, pools and the neighbour's property all mean rigging and lowering limbs rather than dropping them.
  • Powerlines. Trees near lines need extra clearance and sometimes an EWP. See our guide to trees and powerlines.
  • Species and condition. Dense hardwoods take longer to cut and chip than palms or soft weed trees. Dead or termite-damaged trees may not be safe to climb, which changes the method.
  • Spread. A wide-canopied camphor laurel produces far more material than a tall, narrow gum.
  • Disposal. Chipping on site and leaving the mulch is cheaper than trucking everything away.

None of these are hidden fees. They are just the reasons one quote sits at the bottom of a range and the next sits at the top for what looks like a similar tree from the street. A good quote will spell out the method so you can see where the hours go.

Extra costs: stumps, cranes, emergencies and permits

Removal quotes usually cover taking the tree down to a low stump and clearing the debris. Anything beyond that is priced separately, so ask what is included.

  • Stump grinding. Brisbane 2026 guide rates run from $80 to $150 for stumps under 30cm, $150 to $260 for 30 to 60cm, $260 to $400 for 60 to 100cm, and $400 to $1,200 or more over a metre. Our stump grinding page has more detail.
  • After-hours and emergency work. The same guide notes a premium of around 50% after hours. Storm callouts are covered on our emergency tree removal page.
  • Cranes and EWPs. Guide hire is $1,800 to $4,500 a day for a crane and $800 to $2,200 a day for an EWP. These are only needed for big trees with no safe way to climb or rig.
  • Arborist reports. Airtasker puts a written arborist report at $300 to $500. Some council applications ask for one.
  • Council permits. Brisbane City Council protected vegetation permit applications are free, but the tree may need one before we can touch it. Use our council tree permit checker for a first check.

Palm, hedge and pruning costs compared

Not every job is a full removal. If the tree is healthy and just too big, pruning to AS 4373-2007 is often the cheaper and better option. GoTreeQuotes' pruning guide gives an average of $625 with a range of $325 to $1,450. Canopy lifts run $200 to $700, thinning $300 to $2,000, reductions $350 to $1,500 and deadwooding $150 to $1,500. Read more on our tree pruning page.

Palms are usually cheaper than trees of the same height because they have no spreading canopy. The national palm removal guide gives a typical $200 to $450, with cocos palms at $250 to $350 and a large Canary Island date palm at $1,200 to $2,400. Brisbane figures run $200 to $500 for small palms and $600 to $2,000 for large ones. See palm tree removal.

Hedges are priced by time. ServiceSeeking quotes an average of $70 an hour, and Airtasker a Brisbane range of $90 to $200 for a typical job. Our hedge trimming page covers what we do.

How to get an accurate tree removal quote

Online ranges get you in the ballpark. A firm price needs someone standing under the tree. Here is how to make the quote process quick and the number reliable:

  • Send photos of the whole tree, the base, and what is around it when you first make contact.
  • Tell us about access: driveway width, gates, slopes, and whether the truck can park nearby.
  • Mention powerlines, pools, septic systems and underground services.
  • Say whether you want the stump ground, the mulch left, or the firewood kept. Each one changes the price.
  • Ask if a council permit may apply. We check Redland, Brisbane and Logan rules as part of every quote.

Get two or three quotes, but compare like with like. A cheap quote that skips insurance, leaves the debris or ignores a permit is not cheap. Our quotes are free, in writing, and we work across the Redlands, Logan and Brisbane's southside. Contact us or call 0466 270 743.

FAQ

Tree removal cost FAQs

How much does it cost to remove a large gum tree in Brisbane?

Published Brisbane guides put large tree removal at $3,500 to $12,000, and trees between 15 and 25 metres at $2,500 to $5,500. Gums are dense and often close to houses on acreage blocks, so they tend to sit in the upper part of those ranges. A site visit is the only way to get a firm figure.

Is stump grinding included in tree removal?

Usually not. Most removal quotes take the tree to a low stump and clear the debris. Stump grinding is quoted separately, with 2026 Brisbane guide rates from $80 for a small stump to more than $1,200 for one over a metre wide. Ask for it to be listed as a line item.

Does council charge for a tree removal permit in Brisbane?

Brisbane City Council protected vegetation permit applications are free. The cost is time, and sometimes an arborist report if council asks for one, which Airtasker puts at $300 to $500. Redland and Logan have their own processes. We check whether a permit may apply as part of the quote.

Why is one tree removal quote so much higher than another?

Access, what sits under the tree, powerlines and disposal change the method and the hours. One crew may be planning to drop the tree and chip it on site; another may be rigging every limb over a roof and carting everything away. Ask each quote to spell out the method and what is included.
